Celebrating Victory of Good over Evil

NURTURING THE ART AND CULTURE

Ramlila

Ramlila(Rāmlīlā) (literally ‘Rama’s play’) is a traditional folk drama depicting the life of Lord Rama from the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana. Celebrated during the autumn festival of Navratri, Ramlila combines music, dance, and theatre to bring timeless stories to life. The festivities reach their grand climax on Dussehra, when the symbolic burning of Ravana’s effigy with fireworks marks the victory of good over evil.

Ramlila Ballet

Traditionally performed over 10 days during Navratri leading up to Diwali, Ramlila has evolved for today’s audiences into a dynamic three-hour theatrical performance showcasing the entire Ramayana. Since 2006, ICAC and its founder directors, Ratika & Ajaay Modi, have kept this cherished tradition alive in Canada. Over the years, numerous groups from India and across Canada have brought the epic to life on stages nationwide.
